Evaluations

Evaluations typically last an hour to an hour and a half, and are important for:

  • Getting to know you and your child

  • Determining your child’s strengths and needs

  • Establishing goals and tailoring a treatment plan to meet these goals

During the evaluation, your therapist will gather a case history, and observed your child’s play style and communication skills. Oral motor and feeding skills will also be assessed at the time of the initial evaluation to determine an appropriate therapy schedule.

Our Approach to Therapy

Our therapies are focused on making growth and learning fun for your child. In following the child’s interests, we can:

  • Foster communication through connection

  • Honor your child’s strengths

  • Provide support to reach goals

Each session’s activities are grounded in an understanding of child development and sensory processing, and focus on regulation before expectation. This approach is ideal for all children, but especially those with more significant sensory or motor planning needs.

our specialties

Augmentative Communication

High tech augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) is a newer and growing field, and is very useful for:

  • Giving non-speakers an audible voice

  • Strengthening receptive and expressive language skills for visual, auditory, or tactile learners

  • Improving communication partners’ understanding for those with severe speech difficulties, such as apraxia of speech

Childhood Feeding Disorders

Picky eating or problems feeding can affect children from birth. Skilled feeding intervention can address the following:

  • Helping babies breast or bottle feed more effectively to support healthy weight gain necessary for their rapidly developing bodies and brains

  • Teaching cautious children and their caregivers strategies for healthy food exploration to improve variety of diet, decreasing meal time stress

  • Increasing strength, improving range of motion, and establishing appropriate motor plans for safe and effective chewing and swallowing

LATE TALKERs & LANGUAGE DELAYS

Speech and language delays stem from a wide variety of issues. A licensed and certified speech therapist can help:

  • Identify speech and communication delays and disorders

  • Create a tailored treatment plan to help your child make progress

  • Refer to other helpful professionals if you and your child are facing challenges that are more complex

GESTALT LANGUAGE PROCESSING

Did you know there are two ways in which children can acquire language? Analytical language processing is what we historically think of when considering typical development, but recent research on gestalt language processing shows:

  • Many neurodivergent children (those diagnosed with Autism, sensory processing disorder, childhood apraxia of speech, etc) are gestalt language processors, learning language in “chunks” instead of single units

  • Traditional therapy approaches based in analytical language processing are not very effective for gestalt language processors

  • Gestalt language processors can be very effective communicators, and benefit from informed understanding and a specific approach
